报告题目:MHD wave spectrum with applications to space physics

报告摘要:

Satellite and ground-based observations have provided a wealth of evidence of magnetic waves and oscillations present at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales in the atmosphere of our nearest star, the Sun. Our understanding about the Sun has recently been considerably changed in light of these observations.

First, we will briefly outline the current state-of-the-art in the mathematical theory of magnetic waves focusing on linear waves and explaining the so-called MHD spectrum.

Next, we will concentrate on the role of these waves in heating the solar atmosphere to the observed multi-millions of temperature. Some surprising results will be discussed, bringing us closer to solve the century-long coronal heating problem.

报告人简介:

Prof Robertus Erdelyi (Head of Solar Physics and Space Plasma Research Centre; Director of Research, Faculty of Sciences, University of Sheffield, UK), is an internationally renown expert in the mathematical modeling of waves and oscillations in magnetised plasmas. He has (co)authored over 250 refereed papers, has a total citation over 3700 and his h-factor is 37. He has written 5 papers in Science and Nature as well. He is member of many international professional bodies, representing the UK or his field.
